BE SPECIFIC

Seems easy enough, right? Well, often times, it’s not. We think we’re being specific in what we seek, but we still might keep it general.

If you’re like me, you can get overwhelmed with too much on your plate. It’s a classic “do-gooders” mode of operating. We stay on that hamster wheel despite knowing we need to slow down and take care of ourselves.

But when you think beyond your current situation and are looking for a change, what do you think about? The desire to work less hours? To have more money in the bank? To go on vacation?

Those are all great general ideas, but how about writing out something more specific to focus on this week/month/year. How many hours less do you want to work? What believable dollar amount do you want to see in the bank? Where, when and for how long would you like to go on vacation? So on and so on. Get my drift? It’s so much fun to dream in big, bold specific colors! (Just promise me you won’t fret over “how” to make it happen. That’s no fun and not the point right now.)

I used to be very general with my desires. And for the longest time, that led me nowhere. But now, I try to be as specific as possible and it has benefitted me greatly. Like when it comes to buying a car and I have it narrowed down to two, I will make a list about specifics for even the smallest detail (like placement of the dashboard dials) to get exactly what I want

. Now, I’m driving my current dream car that I still love after many years. (And continue to be grateful that she’s mine.)

What’s one area in your life you could be more specific about this week? Jot it down and really list as many details as you can surrounding every aspect of it. The sky is the limit how far you can go with this and check in with how those specifics make you feel. Once you do that, you’ll be one step closer to achieving it.
